Description
Grand Portage, an age old portage about 14 kilometers long, was used for centuries by Native peoples, Explorers and Voyageurs to avoid the long series of waterfalls and rapids that rushed down the lower Pigeon River to Lake Superior.
A formidable barrier, High Falls stands 28 meters (92 ft.) high. This waterfall is but one of the natural obstacles that prevented travel on the lower river.
